I'm Soniei (pronounced sO.nE.A) and I was raised in Clare, a small Acadian-French community in Nova Scotia, Canada. For the past eight years, I've called Halifax (NS) my home.
I started taking drawing and acrylic painting lessons at the age of six and I always dreamed of one day becoming a contemporary artist. I didn't always have time to paint while growing up because I started traveling as a traditional acadian dancer at the age of 12. By the age of 16, I began touring as a guitarist / singer as well. Soon after, I was completing two degrees (BA - Advanced Major: Psychology - Minor: Sociology, and Programmer Analyst / Internet Solutions Developer).
For several years, I was motivated to find a job that provided me security and a steady paycheck. Finding a career in painting contemporary art was definitely not on my to-do list. To make a long story short, in 2004 I couldn't find anything that I liked in the job market, so I thought this would be the perfect opportunity to try this 'contemporary art thing' out.
What a learning and growing experience it has been! I'll never regret it!
However, after seven years of painting contemporary art and making art prints full-time, it's time for a new challenge! I need to feed my inner geek as well! I've recently decided to go back to hunting for an IT job that will feed my left-brain before it shrivels up or divorces me.
But, don't worry!!! Contemporary art will still be a part of my life and I'll be painting on the side when I have a creativity craving. I'm just an ever-evolving person who's looking for a balance between creativity and ... well... geekiness.
