I’m In Signal vs. Noise (By 37signals)!
I’ve been mentioned in 37signals‘ Weblog, Signal vs. Noise! The post, called The Word Entrepreneur and Its Baggage, questions whether or not people like me should be called an ‘entrepreneur’ or if this term is a bit outdated.
Personally, when people ask me what I do for a living, I tell them that I’m an artist. I never once called myself an entrepreneur, even though I work long hours trying to grow my business. Why? Maybe it’s because I work long hours to support my artwork. I created my business, Soniei’s Contemporary Art, so that I could make paintings. All this business stuff is to support my passion for art. Although, I must admit, I’m having fun with the business side of things too.
Nevertheless, if someone were to call me an entrepreneur, I wouldn’t care either. I wouldn’t even give it a thought. It’s just another label. Call me what you want because it doesn’t affect me one way or the other. But, one thing I DO care about is that…. I’m in Signal vs. Noise! Yoohoo!

Soniei,
I just discovered your site and blog, and I love it! I can relate somewhat to your challenge being an independent artist. I’m trying to do the same thing with music as a solo piano musician. Unfortunately, I’m not full-time at it yet, and have to have a day-job to support my family. I wish you the best – your art is amazing, so I’m sure you’re success will only increase!

Hey Soniei,
I’m not sure if I responded to this one or not… However, I just think it matters more what we call ourselves than what other people wind up calling us. You know? Sometimes we are our own worst enemy, more than anyone else.
And to this day, (believe it or not) I still fight with myself more than anyone (I’m just not sure who the winner is of that “fight”).
