About the Artist
I'm Soniei (pronounced sO.nE.A) and I was raised in Clare, a small Acadian-French community in Nova Scotia, Canada.
I started taking drawing and painting lessons at the age of 6 and I always dreamed of one day becoming an artist. I didn't always have time to paint while growing up because I started traveling as a dancer at the age of 12. By the age of 16, I began touring as a guitarist/singer as well. Soon after, I was completing two degrees (BA, Major in Psychology and Programmer Analyst/Internet Solution Developer).
I was motivated to find a job that provided me security and a steady paycheck, so finding a career in art was definitely not on my to-do list. To make a long story short, I tried so many different jobs that didn't 'fit' me. I was unhappy and sometimes downright miserable.Determined to make my childhood dream a reality, I started working on a business called 'Soniei's Contemporary Art' in 2004, which only started making me money in 2006. Now, I'm a self-representing artist / home online-business owner. I love my job and I can't see myself doing anything else.
